Mukasa will never forget June
Elly Kibuuka Mukasa is not your ideal pin-up poster guy. He is not even anywhere near the pecking order of the country’s crème de la crème. But Mukasa has already hogged some limelight and entertained interviews.
Mukasa, treat a cricketer-cum golfer, carded 40 stableford points while playing off handicap 21 to win the Toyota Partnered Golf Day at the par-72 Kitante course on June 8 to bag his first ever podium finish in a career spanning just 18 months. “Winning is always a great feeling. And that is how I feel right now,” said Mukasa who carries the ‘Sobers’ nickname after legendary West Indian cricket Gary Sobers – the first man to hit six sixes in a single over.
Apart from the trophy, Kibuuka received a return ticket for two to any destination in Europe courtesy of Turkish Airlines whereas Gertrude Kityo was the lady winner of the golfing day that attracted 170 corporates. Only a week later, Mukasa, who was playing off handicap 19, swept a strong field of 129 golfers that included players from Rwanda to claim the June Orange/Castle Lite Mug of Mugs at the Entebbe golf club on the weekend. Months won’t come any better for Sober golf-wise!
